Interdecadal Variation of the Antarctic Circumpolar Wave Based on the 20CRV3 Dataset

As a large-scale ocean–atmosphere coupling system in the Southern Hemisphere, Antarctic Circumpolar Wave (ACW) greatly impacts global climate. However, interdecadal variation of ACW has rarely been studied due to lack long-term data. In this research, latest 20th Century Reanalysis Version 3 dataset is used analyze variations sea level pressure (SLP) and surface temperature (SST) signals during 1836–2015. The results indicate that not always present recent 180 years, it remarkable variations. Specifically, was hard distinguish before 1870s. SLP anomalies propagated eastwards over South Pacific Atlantic part 1880s–1940s. SST also have an eastward propagation 1880s–1960s. most active period signal 1950s–1990s, while 1980s–1990s. significant since 21st century. may be related Annular Mode Pacific-South American pattern, more associated with ENSO.
